7:45 pm - 'Lo, I'm new

scarletphoenix
The following is an excerpt from my journal, from yesterday:

Music is a lot like sex.

Think about it. The beat is like the actual body movement. The vocals are like the person's facial features. The accompaniment is like the body. And the lyrics and melody are like the personality. If you're not crazy about the lyrics but you still like the song, then the song is like a fuck buddy. But if you're really drawn to the message of the song, then it's like meaningful sex with someone you really love.

Hmm... that must mean that I am a musical whore ^____^!

I just *had* to join this community when I saw the name "musical whore" in there ^_^

(sorry for the cross posting)

I DJ once a night @ a local goth club...

...for a while our flyers were just entitled The Mix Up.. one cause we don't stick to just one genre of music.. and two cause well we were kind of lazy to actually think of a name...

...well it turns out.. people are thinking it's a techno night... so we need to change the name..

..can't really find a name that would perfectly suit everything we play...

hoping maybe you guys out there can help me...

some of the music genre's we play range from mostly but not limited to...britpop, new wave, new romantic, early 90's alternative, punk, mod, early goth, and trip hop

...maybe one of you will prove much clever then me and come up with something brilliant!

10:32 pm - Music Reviewers wanted.

jackola
Hey there! I'm jackin69Jack from freakcentral.com (on lj: freakcentralcom)...

Here is the deal.. I'm only writing this to THIS community for a reason. There are good review writers out there. I am looking for anyone who wishes to write reviews and have them published on an established, hi-hit website. The site makes NO money (actually, I've put so much into it.. lol..).. it is just my hobby. I love music. I have set up a program that allows mutliple people to automatically add thier own reviews to the website. It's quite nifty.... Currently my bestest friend pinkrocker writes all the reviews, but we need more!!

If you want to see the intro/release we give to record labels, see it right here....Collapse )

Anywho, if you are interested in having your CD/concert reviews published on there, e-mail me sometime: jack@freakcentral.com /// I can set up an account for you, and get you rollin :-) (please tell me your lj name and possibly links to your reviews here..)

Otherwise, thanks for reading, sorry for taking up your time and friends page, and rock on.

*jack

ps: this is a Rock/Punk/Emo/PopPunk/anything but country/britney website. just to let you know...

Man, I don' t know how many of you here dig Mindless Self Indulgence, but WOW. Everyone with a strong stomach and a weak (see:nonexistant) set of morals should most definitely check out their new album "Alienating our Audience."

I'm listening to it right now for the first time... wow, the audience is chanting "ANAL SEX! ANAL SEX! ANAL SEX!" If that ain't a dead give-away for the BEST ALBUM OF THE YEAR, then I don't know what is.

4:20 pm - CD Review!

fuzza
Cd: Good Charlotte, "Young and the Hopeless"

Review: Good Charlotte is back, and stronger than ever. with this, their second album release in almost 3 years, they have set a new standard for punk rock bands. this album shows how the group has grown-up in both songwriting and musicianship. "The Anthem" starts of this album with a kick-ass song about being yourself. after that, the great songs just continue with the extremely cool "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous", the romantic and rocking "Wondering", the fist pumping "Girls & Boys", and on and on...the cd doesn't drop a single bad tune. There's plenty of tunes to rock out too ("Riot Girl", "The Day That I Die"), as well as some tear jerking ballads ("Say Anything", "Emotionless"). The album ends with the with the powerful "Movin On", a song about dealing with life and not giving up. it's a message i hope Good Charlotte takes to heart, because it would be a shame for them to give up on music and not make anymore records. if you don't have this album already, then buy it now.

Rating: ***** 5 out of 5

Good Songs: all of them, but especially "The Anthem", "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous", "Wondering", "Riot Girl", "Emotionless", "Movin On"

New bands galore! Ick. Galore.

I've had Voltaire in my stereo, in my car, and on my computer for the past three weeks and I finally Voltaired myself to death. So here's some new bands that I'm gushing about:

Enon - I told you to listen to them yesterday. Do it!

Brainiac - Pre-Enon w/some of the same members... If you like early Dismemberment Plan (and, c'mon, who doesn't? ::smirk::), you'll like these guys. They're very wonderful and weird.

Super Furry Animals - I love these guys. I have for a few months now. Their music is indescribable and their CDs span about fifty genres. "Rings Around the World"--a 2 CD set for the price of uno--is a very good starting place. Yey for them.

Starlight Mints - They represent a very, very happy medium for me. I'm pretty satisfied with the new explosion of "mainstream-indie" and "(three-car) garage" bands... Well, if you take any of those The+PluralNoun (The Strokes, The Vines, The White Stripes, The Shins etc etc etc), add a healthy dose of polished weirdness (ala early Dismemberment plan), and about 20 lbs of sugar... well, then you have Starlight Mints. Mmm. Also, for you Bright Eyes fans out there: Starlight Mints = Oberst - (alcohol) + (antidepressants)/sunshine.

And there you have it.

Check out Enon.

They make me really happy. Umm.. I just discovered them today, so I don't really have too many songs to reccomend. I really like "Conjugate the Verbs"

They sound like Super Furry Animals, Dismemberment Plan, and the Shins got together and had an orgy and then, somehow, had a three-way-love-child named Enon.

See, I told you they were cool.

WEEPING FOR JOY, PEOPLE. I am weeping for joy.

Well, I was. Ok. Was weeping for joy.

DISMEMBERMENT PLAN has released their music video here. OK, so maybe it was released in July. I don't check their homepage that often!

Anyway, it brings me the most incredible joy and I actually got up the courage to write them fanmail, something I have never done before for any band. Eek.

Yes. Dismemberment Plan will rock you hard.

points of interest:

Elf Power is a new band i've been listening to a lot. i was drawn to the band (obviously) by its name initially, but i really like them! they remind me of Bright Eyes, but only if conner oberst became a well-balanced citizen and stopped with the drinkin'.

Capitol City Dusters is a band i've known about for a while but i feel deserve a mention. some of the songs are just OK, but they really grow on you quickly. "Sound Fountain" is incredibly evil and I love it. i'd describe it as the vocalist from the B-52's getting a garage band. fun stuff.

Spoon is a great band if you haven't already checked them out. they've got a new album due out in august (8/20 "Kill the Moonlight" on Merge).

Weezer just released a BUNCH of demos for their fifth album--23 to be exact. right now, you can find them all here at the official site. they come and they go there, though. if the demos aren't there when you go, just do a search for them on google. plenty of fansites are hosting them now, too. i reccomend "Running Man" and "Misstep." cool stuff.

Control Machete's "Si Senor" (from... that commercial. i forgot what it's for, but it's got the guy with 'da crazy legs) is my new most favorite-ist song.
